Nobody joins a theatre committee because they dream of spreadsheets and safeguarding policies (you don't, right?). You joined because you love theatre, and then somewhere along the way you became the person responsible for keeping the whole thing running. The finances, the volunteers, the building that's starting to fall apart, the programme that needs filling and printing, the audience that needs growing, and the committee that needs to stop arguing about the heating.

You're not alone. There are many hundreds of people like you across the country, all solving the same problems in isolation, all wishing someone had left them a manual.

This is that manual. Or the closest thing we have to one. Everything we've learned from years of running drama groups and community theatres.

Making Theatre is a free newsletter for the people behind the scenes of community theatre. The chairs, treasurers, venue managers, and committee members holding it all together so the shows can happen.
